His math holds up as long as accidental difficulty doesn’t reach that 90%+ mark, since anything lower makes a 10x improvement from eliminating accidental difficulty impossible. But I suspect accidental difficulty, today, is a vastly smaller proportion of the total than that. In a lot of mature domains of programming I’d be surprised if there’s even a doubling of productivity still available from a complete elimination of remaining accidental difficulty.
